What Is This Game?

This game was made as a tribute to “MOLE MOLE,” a classic by Cross Media Soft released in 1985. For more details on “MOLE MOLE,” check out the article linked below.

To be honest, I’ve never played the original game. I watched some YouTube videos and thought it looked like a fun challenge to make, so I decided to create my own version and play around with it. (Honestly, my main goal was to make the game, not just play it!)

The rules are simple but deep. It’s fun to play and was a blast to make! Even though this game isn’t super well-known, I think it’s a hidden gem in the puzzle game genre.

I’ll save the explanation of my source code for next time; in this article, let’s go over the game rules.

The keys for controlling game are follows. You also can play it with gamepad.

Game Rules

The goal is to collect all the gold buried in the dirt. Once you’ve collected all the gold, make your way to the treasure chest to clear the stage.

You won’t clear the stage if you reach the treasure chest before collecting all the gold.

You can dig through the dirt to create tunnels, but you can’t dig through rocks. If you run into a rock, you can’t go any further.

If a rock is blocking your way, you can dig beneath it to drop it out of the path.

You can freely dig and move through the dirt, but once you’ve dug a tunnel, it stays there—you can’t walk on top of it again.

Sometimes, the tunnels you dig might block your way, so you need to plan your digging carefully.

Now, give it a try and have fun!
